Benny Visit

Start with the books on your desk. Each group has one book and one question to answer. Try and find the answer in your book. 

Hello Friends,

My Name is Benny. I am  a Cockatiel, a type of parrot, who lives with Mr. Hussey and His wife.  I am here to visit today and learn with you.

A few rules about me.

1. Please do not stick your fingers in my cage as that will scare me and I may bite you to protect myself.
2. Do not be loud around me. I do not like loud voices and they will scare me.
3. Please do not open my door as I might fly away if there is time latter maybe I will come out to visit.

If I am out of my Cage.

1. You must sit perfectly still at your desk.
2. Your feet must stay flat on the floor.
3. Your hands must stay flat on your desk.
4. Please stay quiet while I am out.

About My Pet

Where does this animal live?

Benny lives in a special bird cage that we got for him. It has lots of toys and food and water so he feels safe. It is a very large cage.

Draw a picture of it’s home. - Please use lots of colour.

What do you feed your pet?

I feed Benny a special bird seed that is made for cockatiels. It keeps him happy and healthy.  

Can we hold the animal?   Yes or  No

What is the best way to pick up the animal?

We cannot hold Benny as birds have to be trained to be held by different people and Benny has not met everyone in this room yet.

Power Grids!

Today we are going to learn where our power comes from!

Our power always flows from a power station or power plant to our houses and factories! Using some string, labels and pictures we are going to make a power grid as a class!


All of the places that electricity flows to have appliances that run on them. With a partner come up with a list of 5 things in your house that use electricity. Then we are going to act our how these appliances work using only our bodies!



Finally you will be making your own power grid on a handout Mr. H has for you.

Today we will be looking at how we use energy in our own home. 

Your first challenge is to list all the types of energy that your family uses in your home and then all the items that use that type of energy. 

Wind	Example: Fan

Electric (battery or plug)	Example: Computer, lamp.
Solar (sun)
